A Romantic Hidden Acres Wedding in Steubenville, Ohio
When you have a late June wedding, you know it could be a tad hot…maybe a bit humid and there may be a storm or two. In the days leading up to Katie and Jorge’s big day, my various weather apps could NOT decide what the weather was going to do on June 29th. So I left the house that morning with 16 clear umbrellas just in case the skies opened up! Luckily, the rain held off to the VERY end and Katie and Jorge had an absolutely beautiful day! ! It ended up being a hot and humid day which was the total opposite of the day we shot their engagement photos! But you forgot all about the heat and the pending storms when you saw the joy and love that was shared by all on their wedding day.
There were so many details that made this beautiful day just perfect. When I arrived at the Hernon house in Steubenville, OH, there was praise and worship music being played all over their house. As I took pictures that morning, listening to the music as I arranged her dress and details, it really made the whole morning prep for the wedding feel like a prayer. I learned that flowers on Katie’s veil, which her mother made for her, came from her First Holy Communion gown and she had a broach with their family’s crest on it attached to her bouquet. One of my favorite moments was when she and her father shared a first look: they both began to cry, and so I began to cry! It’s so hard to shoot with blurry tear filled eyes!
One thing I learned this weekend is that Katie’s family is incredibly musically talented! Her uncle sang and played most of the music during Mass. Her mother wrote a song and sang it to the newly married couple after communion and her sisters sang a beautiful hymn during the presentation of flowers to Mary! But that’s not all! Katie’s father/daughter dance, “Lullabye (Goodnight, My Angel)” by Billy Joel was sung by her uncle and it was SO BEAUTIFUL! Matthew whispered to me, “gosh he sounds JUST like Billy Joel!” However, hands down my favorite part of the day was at the end of the maid of honor speech…which was one of the most heartfelt and sincere speeches I have ever heard. Moira, Katie’s sister, began to sing the song “You’ll be in my heart” and then each of her siblings joined in and they all sang it together!! It was amazing!!!
Katie and Jorge’s families were such a joy to meet and serve. You can tell their zest for life comes from having such wonderful families loving and supporting them. Jorge and his mom tore up the dance floor during their mother/son dance and Katie’s whispered to me “they are the BEST dancers I know!” I totally agree Katie, they were killing it out there! Also, not only is Jorge’s mom an exceptional dancer…she also did all the flowers for the wedding!! They were INCREDIBLE!! She’s so talented!
Katie and Jorge, I hope you are having a blast on your honeymoon! Have fun scrolling through your blog post and reliving your special day! It’s surely a wedding day we will never forget and we are so incredibly honored to have been able to capture it for you!
